Report: Gazprom to stop transit across Ukraine to Turkey from ‘20

MOSCOW, Mar 12 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom plans to stop gas transit to Turkey across Ukraine via the TransBalkan corridor from January 2020, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova.

Petkova said that Sofia reserves the right to turn to court to reclaim the debt for transit payments which Bulgaria shall receive until 2030, if Gazprom does not build an extension of the second line of the TurkStream pipeline across Bulgaria.

The TurkStream pipeline was designed to consist of two branches with a length of over 900 kilometers and a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters each. One of them, finished in May 2018, is to carry Russian gas to Turkey, while the other is to transit gas to the European countries through Turkey and is to be finished in 2019.
